2nd Year: Sustainable Design

Sustainable design;

In this group project our team created a design to transform an existing, run down, park into a new visitor attraction. Across the whole site we explored the issue of sustainability and the natural environment.

Having created the masterplan as a team, we then focused on our own individual buildings to provide a range of attractive facilities including a yoga centre, cafe, woodcraft area, arts & crafts area, nursery, pavillion and my building, the information centre

The site we selected was Liquorice Park in Licoln, an established but rundown green area on a slope. Being a 10 minute walk from the city centre it could add to the tourist offer for visitors to the city as well as for local people. Close to the main road and built up areas of the city, it offers a piece of nature to people who would otherwise be surrounded by an urban environment.

For my Information Centre, I took advantage of the sloping site to create an underground building which would enhance its sustainability. I chose to a circular design which echoed other features already existing in the park.

As part of the sustainable theme, I proposed to plant several Crab Apple trees around the Information Centre in attempt to introduce back many of the birds that have now become scarce in the Liquorice Park.
